Constantly seeking to please others bankrupts your personality and debases your character. It forces you into obsolete templates — fake versions of yourself that you’ve created (consciously or unconsciously) to seek approval, keep the peace, chase prestige, etc.

When you crave praise from others, you become hypersensitive to their criticism. And when you’re hypersensitive to criticism, you become less likely to try anything ambitious.
